My 7 Links is an initiative started by Tripbase with the aim to dig up travel posts that are old classics and get travel bloggers better connected with one another. It’s a bit of a chain-letter-type-thing but hey, it’s now our turn – thanks to be nominated by Brock…cheers Brock!

So, it’s 7 posts from the archives, each with its own theme and then we get to nominate other travel blogs:

1. Your most beautiful post

  • Koh Phi Phi – video
Not sure if the blog post qualifies as ‘most beautiful’ but Koh Phi Phi itself was so beautiful and something we tried hard to get across in the video.

2. Your most popular post

  • The Thakhek Loop
Most popular post is probably the Thakhek Loop – most popular with us because we loved the independence of cruising around the depths of Laos on a scooter and so we made the post a bit of an epic. It’s also popular with our readers as many people enter the site having searched for the Thakhek Loop.

3. Your most controversial post

  • The Plain of Jars and the Secret War
Quite a hard one to pick but we learned about the Secret War while in Laos and wanted to portray some of the human impact in our post. The Secret War itself is controversial because a massive bombing campaign took place with no government mandate – they just went ahead and started the bombing.

4. Your most helpful post

  • Thailand in 2 Months
We hope it’s useful (and our other travel itineraries)…especially for people planning a trip to Thailand and in need of inspiration on where you could spend your time.

5. A post whose success surprised you

  • Hair Watch!
One key measurement of success has to be engagement of users….and Hair Watch! immediately got people commenting (on the post and also on Facebook) – mainly to tell Carly not to worry about her out-of-control hair!

6. A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved

  • Luang Prabang
A post and a place – Luang Prabang is such a wonderful place that it really deserves all the attention it can get. The buildings are gorgeous, the monks dictate the rhythm of the town (literally – see the video on the post), the food is great and the waterfall nearby is absolutely amazing. I want to go back!

7. The post that you are most proud of

  • Pakse and the Toe Incident
Well…in order to write this post I had to brake a bone (albeit one in my toe) and to get a photo of my toe on the internet was a proud moment 😉

So, that’s our 7 and as part of the rules of engagement, we have to nominate a couple more travel blogs to do their top 7 too:

Muaythaiboxer – Piers boxes and travels around SE Asia
Onawalkabout – Henrik on his grand walk about (including Australia!)
