Khao Lak & Similan Islands – photo gallery

We visited Khao Lak, a beach-resort town 70k north of Phuket on the Andaman coast. Unfortunately, the town and the surrounding area was devastated by the 2004 tsunami and has been re-built in a very Western way, lacking Thai character.
However, it still has a lovely stretch of sandy beach and a few decent restaurants & bars. A lot of German influence here – food menus in German, a lot of German sausages and schnitzels, and even Thai waitresses speaking German!

Whilst there, we booked a 3 day/2 night live-aboard trip to the Similan Islands – an archipelago of 9 beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea, about 1.5 hours by speedboat from Khao Lak. Whilst there we enjoyed some wonderful snorkelling, seeing an array of wildlife, including turtles, sting-ray and some massive fish!
